STOKE C.P. CHESTER ROAD SJ 65 NW Barbridge 1/87 The Old Post Office 12 January 1967 GV II

Former village post office, with accommodation, now cottage. Late C17 with C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Rendered brick and weather boarding, formerly thatched, now has slate roof. 2 storeys, 2 bays. Single storey lean-to to north gable and other single-storey gabled and lean-to additions at the rear (west). Mainly rendered with indented pattern and whitened finish but with wide elm weather-board-cladding to the facade above first floor level. Ledged and battened door in heavy frame. 2-to-3-light flush casements with glazing bars. Gable end stacks. Interior: The rear wall (west) and a dividing wall contain timbers. Exposed bevelled beams and ceiling joists in two ground floor rooms.
