4/74 The Cedars (now divided into Kermincham, Somerford, Ashley and Alvaston).

Formerly Firwoods, a large villa, now 4 houses: C1850 by J E Gregan with billiard room added 1907. Flemish bond cream brick with buff sandstone dressings, Welsh slate roof and 4 brick chimneys. Italianate style. 2-storey, 4-bay front to original house. Low plinth with stone moulding, stone band at 1st floor and modillion cornice. End bays have sashes without glazing bars, the lower one projecting forward with a flat gauged head and a flat stone hood. Similar above in eared architrave with triangular pediment. Right of centre is detached stone Ionic porch supporting balcony with 4-panelled door and plain fanlight behind. Pair of round headed windows above and similar in adjacent bay. To right is 3-bay added billiard room and behind is a 4-stage belvedere. Interior: Ashley has the converted hall with now blocked arcade of semi-circular arches with moulded soffits and a domical vault with moulded panels. Remainder not seen but most fireplaces and the staircase removed.
