SJ 97 NE RAINOW C.P. CHARLES HEAD

3/111 Charles Head Farmhouse.

GV II

Farmhouse: late C16/early C17 but C18 and major C20 alterations.
Coursed buff sandstone blocks. Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone
ridge and 2 stone chimneys. L-shaped plan. 2-storey, 3-bay north
front. End bays have C20 small pane windows with rock faced lintels.
Similar over C20 door. Rear has 3-light square-sectioned mullion with
dovecote above, and 2-light rebated chamfered stone mullion visible in
Charles Head House kitchen.

Interior: 3-room plan. Parlour has ovolo-moulded ceiling beam and
fireplace with bead moulded heavy stone lintel. To rear of fireplace
remains of oven some chamfered beams upstairs. Date'of 1591
reportedly found in repairing other fireplace.

Joined to and formerly interconnecting with Charles Head House (q.v.).
A C20 single storey extension to the right is not included in the
item.
