Details

GOUDHURST CRANBROOK ROAD TQ 73 NW (north side) 5/154 Old Peacock Cottage GV II House. C16 or earlier. Timber-framed and part exposed with red brick infill on sandstone base. First floor tile hung, and plain tiled roof. originally lobby- entry plan. Two storey on plinth, with eaves drop to 1st floor. Half-hipped roof with gablets , the hip-ends projecting and exposed (the wall plates are truncated and exposed in both return elevations, suggesting the building originally extended further both to left and to right. Stack cluster to centre right. Three light and 2-light wooden casement on each floor. Lean-to outshot to right, open on ground floor and forming porch to boarded door in right return. Blocked doorway in left return. Catslide outshot to rear. Interior: very low room heights with exposed frame of large scantling, with tongue-stopped chamfers with gunstock- jowled main posts. Infilled inglenook fireplace.
