Details
WINSFORD FORMER U.D. WHITEGATE ROAD SJ 66 NW 4/129 The Lodge 1967 GV II Gate lodge to Vale Royal Abbey. c1870. Red sandstone ashlar with plain tiled roof. Two storeys. Cross-shaped plan. Entrance front: projecting central gable having arched doorway with chamfered reveal and 4-light casement window above with chamfered mullions and surround. Timber brackets to eaves. Roof has alternating plain and fishscale tiles. To the left of this front is an extensive C20 addition. Right hand return: central projecting gabled wing with canted bay window to ground floor which has two stone-surrounded mullioned windows to the centre and angles. To the left and right of this are cross windows at ground floor level and there is a 4-light casement window to the gable with chamfered surround. Two massive brick chimney stacks to either side of the ridge.
