Details

CROWTON C.P. WOODS LANE SJ 57 SE (East Side) 4/8 Ruloe House II

Formerly agent's house, now house: 1873 by John Douglas for the Wilbraham Estate. Flemish bond orange brick. Red tile roof and brick chimneys with strip pilaster decoration. 2-storey, 4-bay south front. Moulded brick bands at 1st floor and sill level. Irregular massing to the front. Right end projects and has a circular turret at its left corner with tall conical roof. 2-light windows with moulded brick mullions. 2-bay centre has 4-light window of lancets with a stone mullion and half-glazed door to the right. Above is 2-light window in gabled dormer. Left end bay steps forward in 3 stages, and has 4-light mullioned and transomed window below, similar mullioned window above. Right side has gabled porch to main door and some blind arcading. Interior: Rooms lie off corridor which contains well staircase with turned balusters. Simple ceiling mouldings and wooden fire surrounds, one with "Delft" tiles and cast-iron grate.
