5/2 Christ Church

Church. 1856-8. By Raffles Brown. Coursed rubble with ashlar
dressings and slate roof. Western tower, nave and chancel. Tower has
angle buttresses and projecting plinth. West face has central window
rising from level of a string course which extends around the tower.
Two-light loosely Decorated tracery with sharply pointed arch.
Circular clock face above. Two lancet belfry openings above with
battlemented parapet. North face has lancet to ground floor with
rectangular opening below circular clock face and similar belfry
lancets and battlemented parapet. South face: Similar, save for 1/4
octagonal staircase. Turret in re-entrant angle with nave. Nave:
South face of four bays, single light windows to right and left with
cusped lights and dagger ornaments above. Gabled porch to second bay
from left with figurehead label-stops to hood-mould and moulded
surround to door. Two 2-light windows to right of this with dagger
ornaments above and buttresses between windows and at angles. North
face: Similar save for absence of porch replaced by further window.
Chancel: Of less width than nave. South side has two 2-light windows
of loosely Decorated form with buttresses between and a priests door
to right of buttress (now blocked). North side has vestry attached.
West window resting on string course is of three loosely Decorated
lights.
Interior: Ashlar piers to thin roof trusses.
