6/186 Bridge End Farmhouse
GV II
Farmhouse: later C16 with early C19 additions and alterations.
Partly coursed squared buff sandstone rubble, partly English garden
wall bond orange brick. Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge and 2
brick chimneys. Originally 2-bay cruck-formed gable-entry house, now
a long rectangular plan. 2-storey, 7-bay front. 2 bays at left
slightly taller and have a cambered brick head to 4-pane sash below
and 2-light casements above. Central portion has a door and casements
with a dairy and garage at right end. Rear of central portion in
rubble stone.
Interior: 2 full cruck frames of good scantling, with a tie beam,
queen posts, collar and yoke. Inglenook fireplace has heck post and a
slightly cambered chamfered fire beam. Similar ceiling beam and
chamfered joists. A 3-board door with iron strap hinges.
