REDCAR KIRKLEATHAM NZ 52 SE 4/71 Barn and stable adjoining 23.6.52 Kirkleatham Hall Farm (Formerly listed as Kirkleatham Hall Stable Block). G.V. II
Barn and adjoining stable, mid/late C18. Brick; Lakeland slate and corrugated sheeting on roof of stable. Clay pantiles on west slope of barn roof and Gaelic tiles on other slopes, with stone ridge copings. On north and west sides of courtyard of Kirkleatham Hall Farm. L-plan barn forms north-west corner. East face of barn : altered cart opening, with late C20 porch, at right of doorway with altered door. South face : mid-C20 boarded sliding double doors at right of remains of sash window. 3 courses of stepped brick at eaves. Roof hipped at angle. Lower 2-storey stable has 4 boarded doors, 5 ground-floor windows holding remains of sashes, and 2 first-floor windows with altered glazing; 2 boarded loft doors at left end, one at head of external brick and stone stair. Slit breathers in south and east gables and west face of barn. Early/mid C19 casement windows, with paired pointed lights, on ground floor of east gable and north face which also has sash window and 2 altered doorways at west end. Blocked square openings in west face. Interior of barn has renewed king-post roof trusses and original queen-strut truss at angle. Stable included for group value. Disused and dilapidated at time of resurvey. Single-storey stable north of barn is not of special interest. Formerly part of stable block to Kirkleatham Hall, demolished 1955.
