to 6 consecutive).
G.V. II
Terrace of 4 cottages, early/mid C19. Dressed sandstone. Welsh slate roofs;
late C20 concrete tiles on No. 5. Stone ridge copings. Nos. 4 to 6 front
onto Grinkle Lane. 2 storeys, 4 windows. Entered from rear. Deep plinth.
Chamfered mullioned 2-light windows have sashes with glazing bars, except
ground-floor right late C20 top-hung casement. Hoodmoulds on ground floor.
2 small square openings between bays 2 and 3 now hold single-pane casements.
Roof hipped at right end. 2 ridge stacks. Gable end of No.3 also fronts
onto Grinkle Lane. One similar mullioned window with hoodmould on each
floor. Early C20 cast metal street nameplate fixed to left side on first
floor. Entrance front of No. 3 faces Whitby Road. 3 windows. Central
6-panel door and overlight, mid C20 casement windows in original openings.
Smaller window inserted above door in mid C20. Right end stack. Rear of
Nos. 4 to 6 show continuous pent outshut. Mid C20 porch at No. 3 is not of
interest. No. 3 included for group value.
