ESTON BANK LANE, NZ 51 NE (NZ 560 180) east side (off) 7/1 Powder magazine and adjoining blast walls - II

Powder magazine and blast walls of former Trustee Drift Level ironstone mine; c1870, for Bolckow and Vaughan Ltd. (ironmasters). Cast slag concrete; magazine partly covered with earth. Magazine has central projecting porch with segment-headed doorway; square window openings in returns; door and window frames missing. Magazine and porch have barrel roofs. Approach flanked by serpentine blast walls with flat copings, ramped down to gateway with square piers. Interior : 2 storage chambers from which racks have been removed. Disused and dilapidated at time of resurvey. Included for industrial archaeological interest.
