LOFTUS MOORSHOLM LANE NZ 71 NW (north side), Liverton. 1/58 Liverton Mill, mill house and byre with wash-house and stable. - II Longhouse and mill, C17, altered and raised in mid/late C18. On site of C14 mill. Mid/late C18 extension to byre. Early C19 wash-house and stable range at rear. Chevron-tooled dressed sandstone. Welsh slate roofs with stone ridge and gable copings and block kneelers. End stacks rebuilt in brick. Brick and stone gable copings on byre. Coursed sandstone rubble wash-house and stable range. House: 2 storeys, 2 windows. Off-centre boarded door. Sashes with glazing bars. Mill adjoining right built into bank which conceals part of ground floor. Stable door to left of fixed-light window with glazing bars on first floor. Stone channel c. 60cm wide fed water to mill wheel through square opening with iron grille to right of window. Byre at left end of house has hit-and-miss window with glazed top lights on ground floor; boarded door in partly blocked opening in first-floor hayloft. Single-storey left extension to byre has breather; blocked pigeon cote with ledge in left return. Right return of mill has stable door on ground floor. Single-storey "L"-plan wash-house and stable range with stable doors and horizontal sashes with glazing bars, adjoins rear of house. Interior of house has beamed ceilings; firebeam and c.1800 kitchen range; 4-panel doors with moulded surrounds on ground floor. Mill has late C18 machinery and overshot wheel. Byre has kingpost roof trusses. Single-storey concrete stable adjoining east side of stable range is not of interest. Occupied by Shaw family for last 400 years. Mill disused at time of survey.
