Details
LOFTUS BOULBY BANK NZ 71 NE (off north side), Boulby. 2/4 Boulby Grange Farmhouse and Boulby Grange. 20.1.67 G.V. II Farmhouse c.1840; slightly later wing adjoining right end; and mid/late C19 rear extensions to wing and farmhouse. Wing, with rear extensions, now a separate house. Dressed sandstone with deep stepped plinth. Welsh slate roof on farmhouse, Lakeland slate on wing and extensions. Stone ridge and gable copings. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Central doorway, up 3 stone steps, has 6-panel door, and overlight with glazing bars under fluted sunburst panel immitating fanlight in dentilled open-pedimented quasi-Corinthian doorcase. Large canted bay windows with cornice on ground floor. Renewed sashes with glazing bars, keyed lintels and painted sills. Slightly recessed 2-bay wing has late C20 casement in original opening at right on ground floor. Other windows sashes with glazing bars, renewed on first floor, all with keyed lintels and painted sills. Shallow-pitched roofs with corniced end stacks. Lower 2-storey, 2-bay extension, with gabled porch, and single-storey, 4-bay outhouse range, adjoin rear of wing. Flat-roofed staircase wing at rear of farmhouse has straight parapet and round-headed sashed stair window with intersecting glazing bars. Interior of farmhouse: staircase has turned balusters and handrails ramped at ends.
