LOFTUS BROTTON ROAD N2 71 NW (off south side) 1/17 Carlin How Barn, stable byre and cart shed range, c30m south east of Craggs Hall Farmhouse II Barn, stables, byre and cart shed range, c.1800, re-roofed mid/late c.19. Chevron-tooled dressed sandstone. Welsh slate roofs with stone ridge copings, clay vent cowls on ridge of cart shed. On 4 sides of courtyard: barn on north side, cart shed on south and stables and byred on east and west sides. 2 storeys. Barn has off-centre round-headed opposite doorways, with voussoirs, plain imparts and keystones, flanked, on north face, by round-headed windows in similar surrounds. Similar windows on each floor and elliptical-headed doorways, at ends. Square inserted window at right end. All have altered window frames and doors. Slit breathers on first floor at left of middle doorway. Shallow-pitched hipped roofs. East face of east byre/stable range has round-headed door and windows in similar surrounds at right end. Elliptical-headed, cart opening and slit breathers at left end. Slit breathers on ground floor of west face. South face of cart shed as 3-bay elliptical arcade, now blocked and holding doors and windows. Partly cobbled yard. Late c.20 extension adjoining south-west corner of range, not of special interest. Largely disused and dilapidated at time of resurvey.
