Details

EGGLESCLIFFE URLAY NOOK ROAD NZ 41 SW SP/244 Leyfield House 0/244 II Railway House, circa 1840, for the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Dark red brick in English garden wall bond, 5 and 1. Welsh slate roof with overhanging eaves; brick and stone stacks. 1 1/2 storeys, 4 windows and small left entrance bay. Plinth. Boarded door and 4-pane overlight in entrance bay. Sash windows with glazing bars, in six-inch reveals, have slishtly-cambered gauged brick arches and projecting bracketed stone cills. On first floor shorter trompe l'ocil windows have similar cills without brackets. Ceramic plate No 19 S D (Stockton and Darlington) below eaves. Centre brick and end corniced stone chimneys. Upper windows on returns are 9-pane sashes. Later rear extensions not of special interest.
