11/114 Poads Trust Almshouses

GV II

Almshouses. Circa early C19, restored and extended at rear in 1960s. Rubblestone, partly slate hung and rendered to rear. Slate roof with gable end on north and hipped end on north east. Rendered rear axial stacks. Almshouses, originally 1 room deep, extended to rear in 1960s. Arranged to form 2 rows, joined at an acute angle on corner site. 2 storeys. Regular 7 window front on west. 3 houses on left at slightly higher level than remainder. Ground floor with five 2-light C19 casements with triangular heads and 3 triangular headed doorways with recessed, plank doors. Above, five 2-light casements with triangular heads. To right, in lower range, window openings altered. C20 casements. Corner, partly slate hung with small slate hung lean-to porch. South east range, 2 storeys, 6 window front. Granite arches to ground floor openings on left. Entrance near centre partly blocked. Possibly wider cart entrance. 2 cottages on right, added circa mid C19. Straight joint.
