TL 7229 WETHERSFIELD BRAINTREE ROAD Stables, coach house, barn 6/10000 and Mill House Studio adjoining NW of Wethersfield Mill House

GV II

Stable and coach house range with attached barn; partly converted to studio C18; partly converted in late C20. Flemish bond red brick with burnt headers and weatherboarded timber frame. Plain clay tile roof with half-hipped ends. Plan: L-shaped on plan. Range of stables and coach houses in main range attached to Mill House at right (E) end; and with barn attached at right angles to rear north west. The right (NE) end of the stable range has been converted into a studio. Exterior: Single storey and loft. Long stable range with brick front with 4 plank double doors and single doorway at centre; small 4-pane sash on left and pivot window at centre with glazing bars; raking dormer at eaves and C20 porch on right; extreme right end has higher roof level and horizontally sliding sash with glazing bars on first and ground floors. On left (SW) end 4 tiers of pigeon holes with brick cills and loft door.Weatherboarded barn on left with raised eaves over double doors, stable doors on right and red brick on left. All weatherboarded at rear; blocked double doors to barn and large studio window in rear of stables. Interior: Stables has clasped purlin roof, wattle loft floor and wooden manger. Barn has curved knee-braces to tie-beams and clasped purlin roof.
