II
Farmhouse, now house. Probably late C17 - early C18; altered and enlarged in early -
mid C19, with later alterations. Slatestone rubble; front in stucco, lined out;
partly rendered and partly slate-hung. Slate and asbestos slate roof, hipped, with
gable end to the front wing; 2 rear lateral stacks in the main range.
Plan: Originally a 2-room plan, with hall/kitchen to left and smaller parlour to
right, each heated by a rear lateral stack. In the early-mid C19, a cross wing was
added to the left end, to form a dairy range, with 3 unheated rooms. A wing was also
added to rear right, heated by end stack; the rear of the passage was extended to
give access to this room, and a straight stair inserted in the original passage.
Exterior: 2 storeys, made a symmetrical 3-window range in the early C19; ground floor
has central porch on wooden posts with frieze and entablature, 6-panelled door, 4-
light C20 casement. Front left wing with brick stack to inner side, C20 porch set in
the angle to the main range to right and left at ground and first floor, with first
floor central 3-light casement. The front of the wing has 2-light casement with hood
mould at ground and first floor. Right end blind; rear right wing has gable end with
gable end stack with brick shaft. The left side is rendered, with small brick lean-
to and C20 garage attached. Ground floor has two 2-light casements, first floor has
one C20 window and two 2-light casements. At the rear, the wings form a U-plan; the
main range has external lateral stack in painted rubble, C20 porch set in the angle
to right and to left of the stack, with 2-storey addition housing the stair to left,
slate-hung, with single casement at ground and first floor. The wing to right has a
2-light casement with brick segmental head at ground and first floor. The inner side
of the wing to left is slate-hung, with 16-pane sash at ground and first floor.
Interior: The rooms in the dairy range to left have slate floors, the central room
retaining slate shelves and central slate table. The room to the left of the passage
has rear fireplace, rebuilt, with oven to left. In the passage, winder stair with
stick balusters to rear right. Room to right of the passage also has rear fireplace
rebuilt. Rest of building not inspected.
