Details
CALSTOCK HATCHES GREEN SX 4271-4371 7/111 Hatches House and Hatches Green Cottage II Pair of attached house, probably originally one house. Late C17 ; extended early - mid C19, with some later alterations. Rendered stone rubble. Asbestos slate roof with gable ends. Gable end stacks to the front range and gable end sack to left in the rear range. Plan: Hatches Green Cottage forms the rear wing, Hatches House the front range. The original house was probably of one-room plan, heated from a gable end stack to left. The lower end room to right is unheated and was probably originally built as a shippon and incorporated in the house. In circa early - mid C19, the house was re- oriented, with a new range facing the road at the left side of the original house. The front range is of 2-room plan, with central entrance, each room heated from a gable end stack. Exterior: Hatches House is 2-storey, with a symmetrical 3 window front, all windows C19 12-pane sashes ; central half-glazed C20 door with decorative overlight. The roof is hipped to left and has a gable end to right, blind at each side. To the rear is a C20 window at first floor and small single storey lean-to. Hatches Green Cottage is at the rear, at the right side ; 2-storeys, asymmetrical front with C20 12-pane sash at ground and first floor to left. C20 lean-to porch with C20 window above. C20 single storey addition to front right. The wall steps back to right, at the line of the addition of the stable. Interior: Not accessible.
