House and shop. Late C18, with mid - late C19 alterations for the insertion of the
shop and some later alterations. Painted stone rubble. Hipped slate roof with axial
stack with brick shaft.
Plan: The house is on a corner site, of 2-room plan, with one room to front and one
to rear, each room heated from the axial stack. The house is built into the bank at
the right side, with a basement at the left side ; the shop was inserted in the
basement, with a shop front at the left side.
Exterior: 3 storeys and basement, an asymmetrical 2-window front. The ground floor
has external stone steps with C20 railings leading to a central 6-panelled door with
fluted pilasters and pediment; C19 4-pane sash to left. First and 2nd floors have 2
C19 4-pane sashes. At basement level to left, a shop window with 2 plate-glass
windows, with central colonnette and pilasters, cornice on consoles over. At the
left side, with cornice and consoles are continued over the main shop front, with
half-glazed double doors and a canted bay shop window with colonnettes and plain
fascia. Single plate-glass shop window to left. At ground, first and 2nd floors
there is a C19 4-pane sash to left and blind window to right.
