GV II

Hotel, adjoining house and reading rooms to rear. Circa early C19. Reading rooms opened 1875. Rubble stone with slate roof with gabled ends with hipped and gabled projecting left hand wing. 3 storeys to harbour front and single storey to West Street. Hotel on left with asymmetrical regular 5-window front. Projecting wing at left with double doors inserted to right, 2 C20 4-light casement windows with glazed door between flanked by 2 granite posts under lean-to roof. Horned sash 8 panes each sash to first floor. Plastic sash to second floor of projecting wing. 3 hornless timber sashes 8 panes per sash to first and second floor of harbour front with tall round-headed staircase window to left of centre 18 panes each sash. Adjoining on right hand gable end, regular 2-window front breaking forward under higher roof with 4-pane sash under brick soldier arches on 3 floors. To rear, single storey reading room with barometer on south east side. Included for group value. Interior not inspected.
