PARISH OF DALE ABBEY THE VILLAGE SK 43 NW 5/25 (East Side) Abbey Ruins 10.11.67 (formerly listed as Remains of Dale Abbey) I
Wall footings and the east wall of Dale Abbey, a house of Premonstratension Canons founded c1200. Late C13. Rubble gritstone and ashlar. The main surviving fragment is the great arch of the chancel east window. It has a finely moulded arch and indications of geometrical tracery, similar probably to Newstead Abbey and the Angel choir at Lincoln. Part of the north west return wall survives with part of the jamb of an arch. To the west the footings of the walls of chancel and transepts partly survive. Scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
