ST CLEER TREMAR SX 26 NE 11/96 East Tremar Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Early - mid C17, with addition of later C17; rebuilding of circa mid C19, with some C20 alterations. Slatestone and granite rubble, with granite dressings. Roof has front slope in tiles, rear slope in slate and asbestos slate, with ridge tiles and gable ends; rendered shafts to gable end stacks. Plan: This is the lower end room and passage of a former 3-room plan house, the lower end of which was to the left. The passage was probably a cross passage, and in the C19 a straight stair was inserted in the rear of the passage. Solid wall to right of the former upper end. The lower end room is heated by a gable end stack to left. In the later C17, an unheated dairy was added to the lower left end. Circa mid C19, the upper end was demolished and rebuilt; the rear wall appears to survive at lower level; the C19 building consists of one room heated by end stack and smaller unheated room to end right. Exterior: 2 storeys; 2 bays to left of the early house. First floor has two 2-light casements in granite, chamfered, with C20 casements, small gable over each with bargeboards. Ground floor has 3-light similar granite window with hood mould to left; doorway to passage to right, with 4-centred arch, hollow-chamfered, with recessed spandrels with roundels. There are quoins to left, and the later C17 lean- to dairy, with 2-light chamfered granite casement with hood mould, and single chamfered granite light. The left side of the dairy has scantle slate roof, 2-light C19 casement with timber lintel. To the right of the early range, there is a straight joint, and 2-light C20 casement at ground floor, 2-light C20 casement at first floor with small gable over the bargeboards. Axial stack. End bay to right has 2-pane light at ground floor and 2-light C20 casement at first floor. To end right a single storey rendered porch with C20 door and window. At the rear, there is an 8-pane stair light of C20 to the rear of the passage. Wall stepped at first floor level in the C19 range. Interior: The lower end room has slate floor; gable end fireplace with granite monolith jamb and cloam oven to rear right. Stud partition wall to the passage. The dairy has a slate floor, rubble partition to form a separate pantry, with slate shelves. The first floor room has been partitioned, and the feet of the principal rafters are boxed in. In the roof, one truss visible, halved and pegged at the apex, principal rafters chamfered, with chamfered collar, also halved and pegged. There is a fireplace at first floor, blocked.
