House. Circa 1740 with some mid C19 alterations. Painted brick front with sandstone
rubble to side, slate roof with ridge stack. Plan: central entrance to passage with
principal room to front right and left; double depth plan.
3 storeys and symmerical 3-bay front, all windows 12-pane sashes with thick glazing
bars except ground floor to right 4-pane sash; central C20 door, and central bay at
first and 2nd floor have blind window. Plain pilasters and cill bands at first and
2nd floors, modillion cornice.
Interior: This house retains exceptionally fine C18 internal features, only partially
inspected at time of survey (January 1986). Ground floor front right room has
complete fielded panelling with panelled shutters to windows; rear wall has fireplace
with eared architrave, interlaced Greek key frieze and dentillation below moulded
mantel. Panelled cupboards to right and left with glazed 6-pane upper doors and
panelled lower doors. Moulded plaster cornice and 2-panelled fielded door; C20
fireplace to rear with cupboard recesses right and left. In a house of this quality
the stair case is likely to have good detail, and there may be other features in the
passage and upper storeys.
