6/87 The Moorings and Haven Cottage
(previously listed as Haven Cottage
21.8.64 and cottage adjoining)

Store and house now house divided into flats. Circa late C18. Painted and rendered
stone rubble with asbestos slate roof with gable ends. Stone rubble chimney stack on
left-hand gable end. Further projecting stone rubble wing at higher end with scantle
slate roof continuing slope of main range. Original plan uncertain but now a pair of
houses above cellars built over harbour wall, the cellars having access to the
harbour at the rear. Wing, probably later, to right of front.
Built on side of harbour. 4-storey elevation to rear with 3-storey elevation to
front. 3-window asymmetrical front. Ground floor with steps leading down to
entrance to basement on right. C20 2-light casement with glazing bars above in
ground floor. Ground rises to right and 2 flights of stone rubble steps lead up to
the ground floor entrances of The Moorings and Haven Cottage. 4-panel door and C20
glazed door, both beneath continuous slate lean-to hood. First floor with two 2-
light casements with glazing bars beneath timber lintels. Second floor with 2-light
casement and C20 window on right, both with glazing bars. Projecting forward on
right, stone rubble wing of 3 storeys with entrance to store on ground floor on front
and side entrance adjoining that of Haven Cottage. 4-pane sash and C20 fenestration
on front.
Rear elevation rises from harbour wall and faces harbour. Low rendered balcony
projects beyond the harbour walls on ground floor. 3-window asymmetrical front with
4-pane sashes and 2-light casements with glazing bars. The rear elevation is an
important feature of Polperro Harbour and is largely unaltered.
