GV II

Cottages. C17, modernised in C19. Plastered cob on stone rubble footings; cob or stone rubble stack without a chimney shaft; thatch roof. 3-room plan cottage facing east. The entrance near the left (southern) end is directly into the main room which has a disused large projecting rear lateral stack. There is a winder stair to the front of the left end. There is a small C20 service outshot to rear of the central room. Main block is 2 storeys. Irregular 2-window front of C20 casements without glazing bars with a third first floor window at the left end lighting the stairs. 2 of the first floor windows are half dormers with the thatch lifted over the top. Front doorway has C20 plank and contemporary plank-roofed hood on wrought iron brackets. Roof is half-hipped to right and to left butts the rear of the Old Bakery adjoining. Interior Very little carpentry detail is exposed. The main room has a soffit- chamfered crossbeam with its C17 stops knocked off. The fireplace is blocked. Elsewhere timbers are cased in and the roof trusses are buried in the partitions. The roofspace is not accessible.
