SY 08 NE NEWTON POPPLEFORD EXETER ROAD, AND HARPFORD Newton Poppleford 5/55 Parsons Farmhouse - 1.5.80 - II

Farmhouse. Late C18-early C19. Plastered cob on stone rubble footings; stone rubble or brick stacks with C19 brick chimney shafts; thatch roof; late C19 brick outshot with slate roof, partially replaced with concrete tiles. Farmhouse faces south away from the road. It has a double depth plan with central staircase flanked by one main room each side and service rooms to rear. End stacks, that to right (east) is massive and projecting and includes an oven projection. Late C19 outshot across rear. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 2-window front of C19 casements with glazing bars. Central doorway contains a C20 door and contemporary porch with a slate monopitch roof. The main roof is hipped both ends and flanked by relatively tall chimney shafts. Interior not inspected but, according to the farmer, shows only C19 plaster. No structural timbers are exposed and the fireplaces are blocked.
