4/253 Towanroath Engine House at
- SW699500
GV II
Pumping beam engine house and associated structure, disused. Circa late C19, partly
rebuilt in the C20 by the National Trust, Killas rubble. Brick arches over the
principal openings. Brick to upper part of chimneys.
Plan: Rectangular plan engine house with round chimney clasping the rear left-hand
corner and the foundation walls of a former horizontal engine adjoining at the rear.
No surviving wooden floor, roof structure or machinery.
Exterior: 3 storeys over basement. Round-head openings with brick voussors. Front
(bob) wall has tall integral doorway rear gable wall has central openings to each
floor. Right-hand (nearside) wall has small basement opening, on the left, and 2
ground floor window openings. Left-hand (offside) wall is blind.
