Row, comprising house and 2 adjoining cottages. C18. Painted rubble and cob walls. Wheat reed thatched roofs over house and right-hand cottage, timber lintels, dry Delabole slate roof over left-hand cottage. Brick chimney over either end of house and left-hand gable end of cottage to its left.
Plan: 2-room-plan house with 1-room-plan cottage at either end. House has entrance between the rooms, cottages have entrances on their right.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Overall 5 window front. Left of middle is original house with 2-window front and its doorway slightly right of middle. C19 6-panel door. C18 12- pane 2-light casements with heavy glazing bars, on the left, circa early C19 copy at ground floor right and C20 copy above. Cottage on the left has 1-window front with doorway on its right. Late C20 plank door, C20 6-pane horned sash on the left and C19 12-pane hornless sash with high meeting rail midway to first floor. Cottage on the right has 2-window front with doorway on its right. Late C20 plank split door. Circa early C19 16-pane sash on the left, C20 12-pane 2-light casements above ground floor openings. At rear, small replacement windows with glazing bars, small 4-pane casement to right of centre with thick glazing bars and a projection to its right that might have been a stair turret.
Interior not inspected.
Harmony Cottage was the home of John Opie, R A, portrait and history painter born in St Agnes in 1761, died in London in 1807.
