II

Toll house, now farmhouse. Early C19. Painted killas rubble walls with stone-keyed brick arches. Scantle slate roof, polygonal over canted front and with rendered lateral brick chimney over side wall left (west) and brick chimney over rear gable end. Cast iron ogee gutters to eaves. Plan: 1-room wide and 2-rooms deep, of reception room with canted front with central entrance and narrower service room behind. Single-storey gable ended later C19 wing at right angles to right (east) of service room. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window south front of canted bay with central doorway with C20 door with blind fanlight over. Flanking 12-pane 2-light casements with original intersecting glazing to arched tympana over. Similar window over doorway but with simpler tracery to tympanum. Flanking windows are blind. All openings have shallow 2-centred arches. Interior not inspected. One of the few toll house in this area to escape either demolition for road widening or drastic C20 enlargement and conversion.
