SY6778NE MAIDEN STREET 873-1/23/219 (East side) 14/06/74 Nos.35 AND 37 Market House Public House (Formerly Listed as: MAIDEN STREET (East side) Nos.35 AND 37 Market House Tavern)

GV II

Public house, incorporating earlier row house. Early to mid C19 and mid C19. Flemish bond brickwork or rendered, slate roofs. No.35 is the later range, in 3 storeys, with a splayed corner, but No.37, of smaller scale, was a house, possibly raised by one storey. It has a 3-storey, 1-window front, with 12-pane sashes in plain reveals at first and second floor above a late C19 public house front in pilasters with bold cornice between modelled consoles, and large 3-light window with door to the left. The upper window has a full-width sill band, and head moulding below the cornice with blocking course and coped parapet. A large brick stack to the right. The difference in scale between early and late phases is very noticeable. INTERIOR: not inspected.
