Farmhouse. Circa C16 possibly remodelled in 1712 (datestone). Stone rubble, granite
and moorstone. Slate roof with gable ends. Projecting stone rubble end stack with
granite strings on right and brick end stack on left.
Plan: Original plan uncertain; the house comprises an unusual and probably altered 2
room plan with larger room on right, heated by an end stack. The left hand room is
smaller and the entrance appears to enter directly into the left hand room, the rear
door offset. The fireplace heating the left hand room may have been inserted, the
room originally unheated. C20 single storey extension across rear replacing earlier
outshot.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front. Lean-to porch to left and C20 2-
light casement with glazing bars to right. Three C20 casements with glazing bars on
first floor. Window with chamfered granite surround in right hand gable end.
Datestone IL 17 12 in right hand gable end.
Interior: Left hand room with roughly cut granite lintel to fireplace with drilled
holes indicating post late C18 date. Right hand room has possibly chamfered granite
lintel and jambs to fireplace with unusual, possibly C19 granite chimney-piece with
corbelled brackets in front. First floor; timber lintel to fireplace in right hand
room is chamfered with pronounced curve to ogee stop.
Roof structure: from left to right, the first truss is much altered with lap-jointed
and pegged collar and principals. Second truss which is closed, has morticed collars
and the principals are halved, lap-jointed and pegged at the apex with a diagonal set
ridge. The feet of the principals have a pronounced curve and appear to be of
jointed-cruck construction. The purlins are possibly soot blackened. The third and
fourth trusses are roughly halved, lap-jointed and pegged.
