ILLOGAN CHURCH ROAD SW 64 SE (west side) 10/184 Churchtown Basset monument approx,15 metres south-east of tower of former Church of St Illogan GV II Monumental sarcophagus. Commemorates John Pendarves Basset (d.1739). Grey marble with white marble tablets. Four moulded feet, steeply angled sides and ends, bolection-moulded top, lid with rounded ends, moulded rim, and humped upper surface with a ball finial. Attached to the north end is a cartouche, and to the sides large lettered panels, that on the north side inscribed:- JOHN PENDARVES BASSET died six of Sept. MDCCXXXIX aged xxv years followed by a lengthy epitaph which continues on the south side. The south panel is cracked near the bottom edge, and the lettering on both is heavily weathered.
