1535/7/79 POLSTRONG 12-SEP-89 Polstrong House
II House. Early, mid, and late C19. Rendered uncoursed rubble, slate roof. L- plan: double-depth range in 3 builds (proceeding from right to left), with receding wing to left end. Two storeys and 2:3:1 bays, the centre breaking forwards, and built on a low terrace with full-width balustrade; the first section has the entrance in the 2nd bay, approached by 4 steps in the terrace, with a recessed porch of 2 Doric columns in antis and a banded surround with cornice, a tall French window to the left with a floating cornice on consoles, and two 9-pane sashes above; the centre has 12-pane sashes with similar floating cornices at ground floor, and 9-pane sashes above; the 3rd section has a 9-pane sash on each floor, the lower with a banded surround to match that of the porch. Hipped roof with projecting eaves. Two-storey aisled conservatory designed by Silvanus Trevail for J.R. Daniell attached to left return wall. Interior: drawing room in left wing decorated and furnished in style little altered since late C19; otherwise, not of special interest.
