ST STEPHENS BY LANGORE SX 28 NE LAUNCESTON 8/156 Cottage and adjoining barn 8 metres - to west of Forge Cottage
II
Pair of cottages and adjoining barn, now used as a store and a cottage. Probably C18 extended in the mid C19. Stone rubble and cob, the cottage rendered and painted. Mid C19 extension on left of stone rubble with brick dressings. Corrugated asbestos roof with remains of thatch surviving underneath. Gable ends. Projecting stone rubble end stack on right with set offs and cloam oven projection. Plan: Originally probably two 1-room plan cottages with barn added on left hand end in circa mid C19. The right hand cottage has an entrance on left, entering directly into the ground floor room which is heated by an end stack. The left hand cottage was probably also of 1-room plan with entrance on right although it is uncertain how it was heated. In the circa mid C19 a barn was added on the left hand end. The eight hand cottage is still in domestic use although the left hand cottage and barn are now used as a store. Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical two window front with barn on left. Entrance to right hand cottage has a C19 plank door with slate hood, C20 window to right and C19 1-light casement to left. C19 2-light casement on first floor. The left hand cottage has a C20 outshut containing a porch with 6-pane window to left and C19 2- light casement on first floor. Barn to left has brick dressings to openings and C20 garage doors to rear. Interior of right hand cottage with unspoilt and unaltered C19 joinery. Interior of left hand cottage gutted but with a timber pegged probably C18 roof which retains a layer of thatch.
