EGLOSKERRY SX 28 SE 10/25 Tredundle Farmhouse and small outbuilding attached on south west - II

Farmhouse and attached bake or wash house. Circa early C17. Rendered and painted stone rubble and cob. Rag and asbestos slate roofs with gable end on right and half hipped end on left. Brick shafts to the axial and end stacks and projecting stone rubble lateral stack with set offs on rear. Plan: Unusual 4-room and cross passage plan: the house is built down the slope with the lower end on right. Entrance to right of centre leading into cross passage with thin partition on higher side and stone rubble cross wall on lower side. The lower end is heated by an end stack. The small central room above the passage on left is heated by an axial stack in the higher cross wall with a larger kitchen beyond heated by a rear lateral stack. Partitioned off on the higher left hand side of the kitchen is the dairy which is the fourth room. To the rear of the room above the passage and lower side of the kitchen is a 1-room plan wing which has a cellar on the ground floor and chamber above heated by a truncated end stack. To the rear of the passage are the remains of an early stair turret with part of a newel stair which was replaced at the top by a mid C17 balustrade when the turret was extended. The stair turret was further extended in the circa later C18 or C19 to form an outshut to the rear of the lower end. Attached on the front left of the house is a small C19 bake house or wash house. Exterior: 2-storeys. Asymmetrical 5-window front with ground sloping down to right and entrance to right of centre. C19 or C20 panelled door with C20 window to right. Two C19 3-light casements to left with C19 open-sided outshut forming porch beyond to left with C19 door and dairy window to left. First floor with four C19 2-light casements and 12-pane sash to right. Attached to the porch on front left a single storey wash or bake house. Circa C19, stone rubble with slate roof with gable ends and brick end stack. C19 2-light window in side wall. Interior: Ceilings plastered, kitchen fireplace partly blocked with a Rayburn range and C20 grate in room above passage. C19 chimney-piece in lower end, flanked by circa late C18 china cupboards which have been altered in the C20. Rear wing has C19 surround to fireplace and roughly chamfered floor joists. The dairy is complete with slate shelves and gauze windows. The newel stair to the rear of the passage has later treads, probably on top of the earlier treads and has heavy turned late C17 balusters above. Roof structure replaced in C20 (information from owners, roof not inspected).
