Details
LESNEWTH SX 19 SW 2/94 Penpol - II House. Circa early to mid C17. Stone rubble. Cement washed slate roof with gable ends and projecting stone rubble gable end stacks. Cloam oven projection to right hand stack. Two room and through passage plan probably with parlour on left and kitchen on right, both heated by end stacks. Thick partition wall on left hand side of passage. The partition on the right hand side of the passage has been removed and the rear entrance has been blocked. C20 single storey extension of one room plan on rear left. Two storeys. The front wall appears to have been partly rebuilt and the right hand side is set slightly forward. Almost symmetrical three window front. Central circa C19 stone rubble porch with gable end rebuilt in late C20. Entrance has C20 plank door and C17 ovolo moulded timber lintel with ogee stops. Two C20 2-light casements with glazing bars; the left hand opening with unmoulded granite lintel and the right hand opening with dressed granite flat arch and keystone. Three C20 2-light casements with glazing bars on first floor. Rear elevation; window in blocked rear entrance with C17 ovolo-moulded timber lintel. Similar C17 lintel to probable stair window to rear of right hand room. Interior ; Thick wall on left hand side of passage. Partition probably removed on right hand side of passage. C20 stair, possibly in original stair position to rear of right hand room. Ceiling beams roughly cut with slight chamfer. Fireplace to probable parlour on left with chamfered granite lintel with straight-cut stops and chamfered granite jambs. Right hand fireplace has granite lintel with dressed stone relieving arch above and cloam oven. First floor and roof timbers not accessible. Particularly unspoilt C17 house of two-room and through passage plan.
