GV II
Terrace of 8 coastguards cottages, now a terrace of private houses. Circa mid C19.
Slate stone rubble. Bitumen coated rag slate roof with hipped ends. 4 axial brick
stacks.
The terrace has a particularly well designed and interesting plan; each cottage has a
2 room double depth plan. The end cottage on the left with a third room set back
from the main elevation. The 3 central pairs of cottages each share an entrance
which is divided into 2 with narrow slanting doors, probably leading directly into
the front room. The 2 end cottages have side or rear entrances. The 8 cottages are
heated by 4 axial stacks, each cottage sharing a stack with back-to-back corner
fireplaces.
2 storeys, regular 1:8 window front with segmental dressed stone arches to ground
floor openings. Ground floor with 3 narrow entrances, each divided into 2 by 2
narrow slanting doors with porthole windows. Each entrance is flanked by 2 C19 2-
light horizontally sliding sashes with glazing bars. The far window on the left has
been altered with a 2-light casement. First floor has 7 similar windows arranged
directly above the ground floor window openings, the eighth window on the left
changed to a 2-light casement.
Interior not inspected.
Unaltered terrace with interesting plan near picturesque harbour at Boscastle.
