7/24 Pillar House
II
House. Circa late C18 or early C19. Rendered and stuccoed softwood frame to front
wall; side and rear walls of slate stone rubble. Slate roof with hipped end and deep
overhanging eaves and gaabled end to rear. 2 brick side lateral stacks on right.
2 room double depth plan with entrance on left leading into passage and stair in
shallow projection near centre of left hand side wall. Built on steeply sloping site
with ground falling away to rear entrances to basement in front and rear elevations.
2 storey and basement to Dunn Street. Single window front. The ground storey of front
is recessed and has 2 tall wooden Tuscan columns in antis supporting the storey
above; to the right is an early C19 12-pane hornless sash and steps leading down to
the basement with iron railings around the basement area; to the left a partly glazed
C19 6-panel door. The basement has a C19 2-light casement window to right and a
partly glazed door to left.
First floor has a early C19 12-pane hornless sash. Rear elevation of 2 storeys and
basement with further small sub basement.
Interior moulded plaster cornice to hall and front room. Semi circular arch in hall
with C19 plaster acanthus-leaf console brackets. C19 chimney-piece of patent stone in
front room. Stair with ramped rail and stick balusters.
Interior and exterior largely complete.
