Probably one house divided into 2 cottages. Circa C17. Rendered and painted stone
rubble. Bitumen coated and cement washed rag slate roof with gable ends. Stone
rubble chimney stacks on gable ends.
Original plan uncertain; possibly house of single depth plan with two rooms heated by
end stacks. The position of the entrance is uncertain and the shallow projection on
front left may have been a 2-storey porch and a stair projection. Divided into 2
cottages in circa C18 or early C19: each of one room plan. C20 extensions on left
hand gable end and to rear right.
2-storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front, central range set forward with half dormer
disposed to left. C20 door to left, central range has 12-pane sash and C19 2-light
sliding sash and range to right with part glazed C20 stable-type door and C19 2-light
casement. First floor; C19 2-light sliding sash in gable end of central range and C19
2-light casement adjoining. C19/C20 2-light casement to right.
Interior of Hill Cottage on left partly remodelled in C20 with ceiling beams replaced
and C20 fireplace. Several keeping holes survive. Roof space not accessible and feet
of principals rafters boxed in. Interior of Wren Cottage on right with C18 bowtell
moulded ceiling beams to right. Roof structure possibly C18 although full inspection
not accessible.
Forms part of picturesque group in Fore Street, Boscastle.
