Details

HAYLE CHURCHTOWN ROAD, Phillack SW 5638-5738 9/74 - The Bucket of Blood

GV II Public house. C18 or possibly older. Painted rubble walls. Steep grouted scantle slate roof (replaced with asbestos slate on rear wing). Brick chimneys over the gable ends and over the left-hand side wall. Plan: L-shaped plan plus C19 outshut in the rear angle. Originally probably 4 rooms on ground floor (remodelled plan in the C20) with 2 rooms at the front flanking a former entrance and stair hall (probably kitchen, right and parlour, left, on lower ground) and 2 rooms in the wing at right angles behind the left-hand side, probably formerly a pantry and back kitchen. Exterior: 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3 window north-east front with former doorway (now window) central to fenestration but all grouped towards the right. Circa late C19 or C20 horned sashes in original window. Left hand side wall (road front) is an irregular 3 window front with doorway towards the left and wide window opening right of the doorway. Interior: has old ceiling with some C18 beams and some C19 beams. First floor and roof structure not inspected.
