SENNEN SENNEN COVE SW 32 NE 4/352 The Old Coastguard Cottages - (Captains Cottage, Albatross, Dolphin, Gull Cottage, Trelew and adjoining outbuildings GV II Former coastguard cottages and adjoining outbuildings. Circa early C19. Painted rubble walls with granite dressings. Principal range has grouted scantle slate hipped roof with wide eaves carried on brackets. Large axial brick chimneys over the cross (party) walls. Plan: Long rectangular terrace of 3 pairs of double depth plan cottages which originally shared a front door for each pair, and another cottage at either end. Each cottage has a room at the front and another room at the-rear. Left-hand cottage has an extra 1-room-plan wing set back on the left (extended on the left in the C20). On the right are adjoining outbuildings including earth closets and former rocket house. Exterior: 2 storeys. Virtually symmetrical 8 window north front plus 1 window front wing set back on the left. Cambered granite arches over ground floor openings. Narrow doorways to middle of each pair of cottages, with original panelled doors. Probably later doorway on the right and another doorway at right-hand side of wing. Original 24-pane horizontally-sliding sashes except to 3 left-hand bays where replaced by 4-pane horned sashes. Interior not inspected.
