GRAMPOUND FORE STREET (South side), Grampound SW 9248-9348 WITH CREED 7/66 Penwyn House - GV II
House. Early C19, with alterations and additions of the later C19 and few later alterations. Slatestone rubble with brick dressings. Asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable end stacks with brick shafts. Deep bracketed eaves. Gable end stack with brick shaft to the rear service wing. Plan: 2-room plan, with central entrance and principal room to front right and left, each heated from a gable end stack. Integral service wing on one-room plan to rear left, heated from a gable end stack. Probably of the later C19, a rear wing was added to right. Exterior: 2 storeys, symmetrical 3 window front. Central C19 6-panelled door with overlight and C19 doorcase with pilasters and dentil cornice. Large C19 16-pane sash to right and left with cambered brick arches. First floor has three C19 16-pane sashes with cambered brick arches. Right end blind. There is a straight joint in the masonry to right to the 2-storey rear wing, with 2-light 4-pane C19 casement at ground floor, first floor has C19 20-pane sash with cambered brick arch. There is a lower 2-storey wing to end right. The left end is blind. Lean-to with C19 half- glazed door and 2-light casement to the loft over. The inner side of the rear wing has 20-pane sash with cambered brick arch at first floor; rest of the building not accessible at time of survey (September 1987). Interior: Not inspected, but may retain good features of the early C19.
