3/7 Garden walls and gazebo about 30
- metres south of Garlenick
GV II
Garden walls and gazebo. Early C18, with few later alterations. Red brick laid in
Flemish bond, on stone rubble plinth. The gazebo has a hipped asbestos slate roof;
stack with brick shaft at the left side. There are C19 cast iron gates at the front
and rear of the garden walls.
The walls enclose a rectangular garden, about 50 metres by 25 metres, with a gateway
at the front and rear. The gazebo is attached at the right side of the garden, with
the front facing into the garden; it is a single room, heated from a stack at the
left side.
The walls are about 3 metres high, with brick corbels and coping. At the front
(north) the walls are ramped up to right and left, to a taller section; where the
wall is ramped up to left, there is a segmental arch in the brickwork, formerly a
doorway, blocked in similar brickwork. At the centre, the walls are ramped down to a
pair of brick piers with corbels and pyramidal capitals. C19 cast iron gates with
trefoil finials. To the rear of the garden, there is a segmental brick arch over a
narrower gateway, with piers and a pair of similar cast iron gates.
At the right side of the garden, the gazebo is set into the wall, with a gateway with
timber lintel to left. The gazebo is single storey, with central doorway with
segmental arch and C20 glazed door, C20 window to right and left with flat brick
arch. The sides are blind; the stack has a corbelled brick cornice. At the right
end, outside the garden walls, there is a single storey lean-to in stone rubble with
plank door and single casement with cranked head.
Rear blind.
