ST WENN SW 96 NE 3/335 Borlase Farmhouse - II

Farmhouse. Mid C18, with alterations and additions of circa mid C19; few later alterations. Granite and slatestone rubble with brick dressings. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends; in 2 spans, over the front and rear ranges, all gable ends with stacks with brick shafts. The outhouse attached at the left end has a stack with brick shaft rising from the slope of the roof. Plan: The original house is of 2-room plan, with central entrance through an C18 porch. Circa mid C19, an addition was made to rear, parallel with the main range, and also of 2-room plan. Single storey lean-to at the left end of the original range, probably also of circa mid C19, probably a wash house, heated from a stack rising from the slope of the roof. Exterior: 2 storeys, a nearly symmetrical 3-window front. First floor has three C19 4-pane sashes in original openings with cambered brick arches. Ground floor has central gabled open-front porch, with re-used chamfered 4-centred arched stone surround to the doorway, with a plank dog-gate across. The porch has sidelights. The interior of the porch has a stone trough for water. Plank inner door with 2- centred arch with glazed spandrels. C19 16-pane sash with cambered brick arch to right and left. The right end is blind. The left end has single storey lean-to with plank door to front. At the rear, the C19 addition is partly rendered, a 3-window front with C19 sashes and central doorway with C19 door. Interior: Not inspected.
