Farmhouse, associated courtyard walls, garden walls and earth closet. C17,
remodelled in the C18. Granite rubble with granite dressings. Grouted scantle slate
roofs with dressed granite stacks over the gable ends, some also with granite
copings. 1 lateral stack with brick shaft, cast-iron ogee gutters.
Plan: irregular inverted F-shaped plan; 3 room range at the front with through
passage between the right and centre rooms and large fireplace in the room at either
end; and 2 parallel 2-room plan wings at right angles at rear middle and adjoining
rear right hand corner. The right-hand wing has thicker walls and some C17 features
in situ. Both wings have central doorways facing into the courtyard. Joining the 2
wings, at the rear of the narrow courtyard between them, is a high coped ashlar wall
with a C17 chamfered doorway. There is a well just inside this wall. Parallel to
the rear wall is a field wall pierced by an embrasure or squint and at rear left is a
square-plan C19 earth closet set into this wall.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Regular 4 window east front with doorway between the left hand
windows and right of middle. Ledged doors. Circa early C19 12-pane sash over the
right hand doorway, later horned sashes right and C20 casement, left. In the
courtyard side (north) of the left-hand rear wing as a circa mid C18 16-pane hornless
sash with thick glazing bars and some circa early C19 sashes. Some blocked and
altered openings. C20 infill building within part of courtyard obscures a C17 2-
light mullioned window outer frame in the right-hand wing.
Interior: little altered since the C19 and retaining much C18 carpentry and joinery
and some C18 features including : turned-baluster stair in left hand wing; some
fielded panelling, chair rails and some 2-panel doors.
Rubble walls enclose gardens in front and left and adjoin parallel wall at rear and
an earth closet with a pyramidal slate roof.
