6/5 The Coach House
II
Coach house and stables for the nearby Whitehall now restaurant. Dated and inscribed on gable stone G. & A.M. 1861 (George Moore) by Anthony Salvin, with C20 alterations. Mixed coursed sandstone with flush quoins and red sandstone dressings. Graduated greenslate roof with coped gables and kneelers; stone chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 4 bays with 3-storey clock tower and right-angle single-bay extension to right of common roof line. Central projecting gabled bay has upper-floor doorway reached by external stone steps. C20 windows in C19 stone-mullioned openings. Gabled bay to extreme left has 2 coach doors in round- arched surrounds. Projecting clock tower under pyramidal roof has narrow slit vents and clock face at front. Extension has round-arched coach doorways under loft door in gabled dormer. Derelict for many years until converted in 1984.
