BRIGHAM COCKERMOUTH NY 13 SW 5/80 The Fitz II House. Early C19 for the Senhouse family. Calciferous sandstone ashlar with eaves cornice, string course, blocking course and angle pilasters, on squared plinth. Graduated greenslate roof with ashlar chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 9 bays. Double panelled doors and overlight with side lights, all within fluted tetrastyle Doric porch. Sash windows with slender glazing bars in stone architraves; off-centre 2 bays within full-height pilasters. Interior has panelled shutters to each window. See Transactions Cumberland & Westmorland Antiquarian & Archaeological Society, new series, lxiii,pp298-301 and Hudleston & Boumphrey, Cumberland Families & Heraldry, p299, mentions a weathered date stone of 1665 with Senhouse coat-of-arms, which seems to be incorporated into the later structure.
