BARTON NY 42 SE 7/98 Seat Farmhouse, cottage and attached barn
- II 2 Houses and barn with connecting outbuilding. Probably late C17 or early C18, dated lintels: 1662 and 1779. Stone rubble, the houses part limewashed, slate roofs. L-plan, the outbuilding at an angle connecting houses and barn. West elevation of 2 storeys and 3+2 bays, the 4th and 5th bays form cottage, formerly outbuilding. Windows mostly sashed with single glazing bars in chamfered reveals, but 3rd bay of ground floor has C20 casement and 1st bay of 1st floor has paired sash. Entrance to 2nd bay has key inscribed: "E ' MT/1779", boarded door. Cottage has large entrance with cambered timber lintel, now glazed infill and entrance; 2 casements above; end entrance up steps next to entrance to lower ground level. Gable-end stack and cross-axial stack. Outbuilding is canted forward; elliptical arched entrance and flanking windows. North elevation of barn has central elliptical-headed entrance with key inscribed: "W & AS/1731". End entrances and inserted windows; ventilation slots; collar and tie beams to trusses. East elevation has continuous outshut under catslide roof. Varied fenestration with 2-light single-chamfered-mullioned stair window and 2 windows with small-paned fixed glazing. Small wing to east, gabled outbuilding now connected to house, covers dated lintel: 1662.
