GV II*

Farmhouse. Early C17 for Sir Christopher Lowther with mid C17 alterations. Cement rendered limestone rubble walls, under graduated greenslate roof with C19 banded red sandstone chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays of double span. Plank door in multi-storey gabled stone porch with 2-light stone-mullioned windows, the upper-floor window blocked. Right 3-light stone-mullioned window under hoodmould but all other windows enlarged in mid C17 as 4-light mullioned-and- transomed windows. Left return wall has 2-light stone-mullioned windows. Internal C17 panelling and original roof timbers. See RCHM, Westmorland, 1936, p.160, plate 19.
